“We are super excited to bring RESPAWN into the fold here at eUnited. We are very selective and particular when it comes to product sponsorships, but RESPAWN and the Razer team have crossed every T and dotted every I when it comes to their new product,” said eUnited media director John DeHart, in a release. “You can expect to see some really cool activations between eUnited and RESPAWN in the coming months, involving both our professional players and content creators!”
RESPAWN began life as an April Fool’s gag in 2010, when Razer jokingly announced a “Project Venom” energy drink. According to a release, the joke’s popularity convinced Razer to investigate the actual possibilities of creating a gamer-focused energy drink to stimulate mental focus without a physical crash. An upcoming Razer-branded toaster has a similar origin story.
