Torque Esports and ESPN have entered into a new broadcasting partnership that will see The Race All-Star Series – Fully Charged by ROKiT racing events aired on The Disney Company-owned network. Broadcasts begin Saturday, April 11, on ESPN2 at 12 p.m. EST with the All-Star Cup and Legends Trophy races, which will be replayed Sunday on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. EST.
The series will feature two separate competitions – the All-Star Cup, which pits the leading real-life racing stars from Formula 1, Formula E, IndyCar, and sportscars, and against the world’s top sim racers; and the Legends Trophy.
Thus far the list for the Legends Trophy features some familiar names including Formula 1 world champions Emerson Fittipaldi, Jacques Villeneuve, and Jenson Button. Indy 500 winners Juan Pablo Montoya, Dario Franchitti, Helio Castroneves, Gil de Ferran, and Tony Kanaan will also be competing.
According to a statement released by Torque Esports, The Race All-Star Series – Fully Charged by ROKiT racing events was created to fill the motorsports entertainment void caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which has seen most sporting events across the globe canceled.
While at this time only the first weekend of The Race All-Star Series – Fully Charged by ROKiT Phones will be on ESPN2, the competition has evolved into a full championship series.
The three-race championship series will award points each week, with the pro racing champion crowned at the end of three weeks. The winner will be awarded $30K USD which will be given to a charity of their choice.
Also, the top-performing sim racer will receive a full day’s test in a Formula 1 team’s simulator including flights to the UK and accommodation. Legends racers will also be competing for their favorite charity, with a weekly $10K prize for the winner of the opening race in each event.
