ESL One Mumbai 2019 was an exciting event. The competition hosted some of the most recognized names in the competitive Dota 2, which left us with great memories. However, recent controversy has emerged after the MVP award. This led ESL to make an official announcement before things got out of hand
The competition came to an end on Sunday as Chinese squad, Keen Gaming was victorious. They made a remarkable run from the lower bracket to demolish Mineski 3-0. After they were crowned the champions of the competition, the organizers revealed the MVP of the event. According to the ESL, the title was awarded to the player after the votes of the community, crowd and the panel. Yet in the end, Febby was declared as the winner of the title. This stirred a riot in the community.

Who Should Win the MVP?
On a general basis, the MVP of a tournament is awarded to a member of the winning team. Since one player is a crucial element to the victory of the team in at least one of the games of the competition. But in ESL it was not the case since the title was awarded to the stand-in of Mineski who finished the competition at 2nd place. Febby won it after but according to Reddit, he didn’t deserve it.
ESL stepped and disclosed that the MVP vote has a 40% community weight and a 60% talent weight. By talent, we mean the votes of the casters and analysts. So the vote of the panel should heavily enforce the winner if the title. But recently, Paul ‘Redeye’ Chaloner who is a renowned caster and was a member of the talent in ESL tweeted that he voted for yi.
No Love For Yi
Zhai ‘yi’ Jingkal was the member of the title-winning side of Keen and exhibited some exceptional performances. Everyone believed that he should have won it, even Febby acknowledged that a member of Keen Gaming should have won this award. Yet at the end of the day, it was a Korean/Canadian professional Dota 2 player who took the title.

After all this drama on Reddit and Twitter, the verdict of ESL didn’t change and Febby is still the MVP who takes home the Mercedes Benz. Redeye, Yi and the fans should just prepare for the next tournaments. Keen is currently at 8th spot with 990 points. They will surely need to perform well in the upcoming Paris Major. If they failed to do well, then Yi will not compete in the TI, which we believe is bigger competition than winning the MVP title.
One fact that disappoints us is that after all this Febby saga, we still do not know what Model Febby won. On a personal note, I am a huge fan of this car and will not rest until I will know which Model he will be driving.
