ESL has announced that its largest annual live event in the UK will return to Birmingham Arena for a third consecutive year. Promoted as “ESL One Birmingham powered by Intel,” the Dota 2 tournament will award a $300K USD prize pool between eight invitees and four regional qualifiers from Europe and CIS, North America, China, and Southeast Asia, with the main tournament taking place May 29-31.
Last year’s ESL One Birmingham broke the company’s viewership record for its Dota 2 events thus far. In addition to the main tournament, the event will include the grand finale for the first-ever ESL Academy season, presented by DHL. This grassroots competition for new Dota 2 talent began in October, will hold an official draft at the ESL One Los Angeles Major in March, and will culminate in a mainstage final on May 30—with the winning team taking home the lion’s share of a $240K prize pool.
