Erste Group Bank AG (Erste Group) has been named a main partner of the playoffs and finals for the League of Legends European Championship (LEC). The logo of the Vienna-headquartered financial services provider was previously featured in the Spring finals, however, the COVID-19 pandemic shifted sponsorship communications and activities to the following season.
As part of the partnership, Erste Group released a short film in collaboration with Hamburg-based agency Jung von Matt/SPORTS. The video contrasts professional esports against the criticisms competitive gaming typically receives from society. According to the announcement, Jung von Matt/SPORTS will be responsible for conceiving and implementing all activations related to the banking group’s role for the LEC Playoffs.
The LEC Summer playoffs were originally intended to take place in Malmö, Sweden, but the live event was canceled due to the ongoing pandemic. Unlike the Spring finals, however, games will be played from the LEC studio in Berlin. Germany, but it has not been publicly confirmed yet if players will continue to compete remotely, or if audience members will be permitted.
