Epic is making harsh decisions for the players – esportsjunkie

by Shehryar Raza

The professional players and streamers of Fortnite are not happy at all. It is no secret that Epic Games has a clear recipe for maintaining such a huge player base that surrounds its battle-royale. Their secret to success is nothing other than offering an exceptional quantity of content and regular updates, the developer is yet to find its match in the world of games. Of course, along the way, Epic has sacrificed the competitive integrity of Fortnite.

After a long time of silence, Epic Games finally spoke yesterday with a post on its website entitled ” Update on the development of competitive Fortnite “. In this text, Epic highlighted several controversial topics and some requests of the most skilled players of the game. Yet, it does not seem that the final decision of the developer will satisfy the demands of the pros.

The changes are final!

Beyond the specific issues, Epic Games makes it clear early on that the changes are final and nothing will change. With the update 8.20 of Fortnite, the siphon (reward in life and shield after getting a kill) was relegated to The Arena Mode. It is a competitive mode recently introduced in the battle-royale for the World Championship.

Since only a handful of players were at the top of the ladder, Ninja and company had to wait in long queues of the Arena Mode. This led to a boycott of the Epic Games title on the broadcasting service, Twitch. Epic Games confessed that only 10% of the players like the Siphon changes while 90% of the community was not happy. It is true that less skilled players complained about the advantage that the siphon meant for the best players. Yet, we believe that more than 10% of players ask for the changes. Just look at the responses to each Fortnite message on Twitter. Epic ends its statement regarding the change by saying: The players who prefer the most aggressive siphon experience, can always play the Arena mode!

The field of vision stays at 16:9

Before the start of the World Cup, players were habitual of playing the game with a stretched resolution. Rather than the usual 16:9, the stretch screen improved FOV and also magnified the hot boxes. This practice is quite common in games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. However a week before the start of the World Cup, Epic made it clear the resolution stays at 16:9. This completely demolished some of the most renowned pro players. In yesterday’s text, Epic justified this change by saying: They basically want to avoid the optional adjustments that give significant advantages to the gameplay. The developers concluded by saying that they want to stabilize the game in a reasonable way towards the final of the Fortnite World Cup.

So it means that both of these changes will stay in the game. The pros like Ninja and Tfeu will not have a chance in the qualifiers.
