The E3 2020 was cancelled following a novel coronavirus problem posed by various participants in connexion with the event and suggested its withdrawal according to an Ars Technica article. The report confirms it was submitted by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which will soon be formalised.

Various developers tweeted about the alleged cancellation of the event before Ars Technica’s article.

On March 4, ESA said they were “monitoring and reviewing the situation every day,” and assured its fans that E3 remains on schedule and is held as planned without delay. On March 4, every event has been either cancelled or postponed. The publishers and developers who attended the event also published names to clear up fears of cancellation.

Since then, the number of cases of new coronavirus has increased considerably to 4,300 confirmed deaths and more than 1,15,000 cases worldwide. The venue of E3 2020 has even declared Los Angeles to be an emergency. These are not just activities that are cancelled, as colleges, offices and hospitals have closed down in different parts of the world and Italy are locked to contain the outbreak.
