Dota 2’s The International Delayed Until at Least 2021 – The Esports Observer|home of essential esports business news and insights

The International (TI10), Dota 2’s largest annual tournament, has been delayed from its original September 2020 date, due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Valve Corporation stated that it was “likely” that the event would need to happen in 2021. The publisher had been exploring various date possibilities, but said: “given the highly volatile landscape for local gathering restrictions, virus trajectory, and global travel policies, we don’t expect to have enough confidence to communicate firm dates in the near future.”

The change in dates will require a restructure of the Dota Professional Circuit (DPC) for the fall, which will be communicated in the future.

Like previous events, the prize pool for TI10 will be funded by 25% of sales from the Battle Pass—an in-game content pack released prior to the tournament. Last year’s edition of The International featured a prize pool of $34.3M USD. Valve stated that the Battle Pass will still be released in 2020, however with its team working from home, it will be later than the usual drop date.
