As Week 3 comes to an end, we take a closer look at South America’s DPC Tour 3.
Usually, the South American Dota 2 region is not as attractive as the rest because Beastcost and Thunder Awaken have little to no competition. Even though they are doing pretty well, Infamous won its first four matches. This puts the team in a perfect position to try and secure one of the slots for the Major.
We are yet to see the clash between INF and BC (it will take place next week). With that being said, the third week gave us access to a couple of interesting matches, so let’s check them out.
Division I
Wolf vs Infamous
The first match of the week in Division I put together Team Wolf and Infamous. The latter looked like the big favorites, but Adriano de Paula “4dr” Machado and his Brazillian teammates won their last match against BC. Hence, they had the needed motivation to win against the favorites.
The first game between the two teams was the most interesting one. Both drafts focused heavily on the late game, but this didn’t prevent the two teams from playing aggressively. On the contrary, they went “all in” right from the get-go.
As expected, INF had a slight lead until the mid-game because their draft was better for the early-game skirmishes. However, things changed once TW’s Luna got her important items.
Even though INF got the lead and looked strong, the fast pushing capabilities of Team Wolf allowed the team to win the game. After killing three of INF’s heroes, Wolf Team destroyed the throne.
Game 2
Infamous was one game away from losing their first match, which is why the team picked some of their best heroes. Wolf Team relied on Dawn, Mars, and Lich for the second game in a row, but then this time, their opponents played better.
The laning stage was almost ideal for TA because their TA got the needed farm. The hero continued to become stronger and stronger, and in, in the end, she was too big to kill. Infamous won the match after a crucial team fight near the Roshput 26 minutes after the start. The team killed their opponents twice, which was enough to equalize the series.
Game 3
The third match between the two was a bit more interesting than the second one. However, once the laning stage was over, it was clear that Infamous would be victorious because their Phantom Lancer had no counters.
Despite picking Tiny and BS, these two heroes were unable to defeat the powerful late-game monster. After getting the Aegis 27 minutes after the start, Infamous became too strong and forced their opponents to tap out.
Tempest vs Thunder Awaken
The second series that we were eager to see in South America was Tempest and Thunder Awaken. Needless to say, Farith “Matthew” Puente and the rest were the big favorites and everyone expected them to win. Although it wasn’t that easy, TA did not disappoint its fans and won this match.
Thunder Awaken’s draft in game one allowed them to use Morphling, Leshrac, and Ember Spirit in the same draft. Many people thought this wouldn’t work because all three heroes need a lot of farms. However, TA found the required space and did not allow their opponents’ Void and DP combo to shine.
There were a few bad fights, but Thunder Awaken won the first map and gave their team the lead in the end.
Game 2
The second map between the two powerhouses looked pretty similar to the first one. Even though the draft of Tempest allowed them to focus on their position one Terrorbalde, TA’s Luina and Abaddon combo proved to be too strong.
The early and mid-game were reasonably even as neither team got that big of an advantage. However, after the two teams started colliding, TA quickly gained a big lead because their Luna was almost impossible to kill. A triple kill from Crhistian Antony “Pakazs” Savina Casanova 23 minutes after the start was enough to secure his team a crucial victory.
Hokori vs BC
This week’s last match in Division I was between Hokori and BC. We expected Jean Pierre “Chris Luck” Gonzales and the rest to have no problems against their opponents. and win with little to no effort. However, this was not the case because Hokori won the first map.
After 40 minutes of high-quality Dota 2 action, Hokori’s late-game draft ripped through BC’s Sven and Void Spirit. This made their opponents’ jobs difficult because they had to bounce back in the series.
Luckily, this was not a problem for BC because the team won the next two games. They used Juggernaut for the second one, whereas game three was all about Alchemist. Hokori tried to use Terroblade in the next two games after winning, but the hero was not powerful enough to carry his team.
Division II
Dream vs Ravens
There are a few teams in Division II in South America that are better than the rest, and they are Dreamers Esports and Ravens. After two weeks of the series, we finally had the chance to watch both in action.
Dreams relied on a mixture of the heroes from the old meta and the hottest options right now. On the other hand, Ravens used some of their best heroes for game one. The start of game one was even, but after a couple of minutes, Ravens secured themselves a comfortable lead.
Despite having TA, the hero was not capable of dealing with Ravens’s aggressive pick that did tons of damage during the mid-game. Dreamers Esports tried to bounce back in the game by out-farming their enemies. However, a team like Ravens knows how to take advantage of its lead and win the first map.
Game 2
After failing to use TA, Void Spirit, and DK in game one, Dreamersz Esports changed their draft for game two and used the popular Bristleback carry. However, Benjamín “Benjaz” Lanao Barrios and the rest were prepared for this pick and countered it with Doom and Razor.
The early game was not bad for DE, but once the Razor and IO combo came “online, the team was unable to do anything. Even though Bristle is tanky, he never had enough damage to kill his opponents. As a result, Ravens won one of the most important matches in the DPC yet.
