Very few matches can hold a massive count of players such as Dota 2 over the last 8 years. But since the top game in September 2016 hit 1,064,377 participants, it was a struggle to prevent the statistics from slipping steadily.
For Dota, 2019 has overall been a good year. For the first time ever in three years, the game was successful in hitting the one million mark. However, with the beginning of 2020, these estimates are still decreasing. Dota 2, having reached 673,496 in January 2014, has posted the lowest player count.
Over the last 30 days, the total number of players has fallen to less than 385,000, and the highest number has dropped to 627,790, the lowest since the steady increase started at the end of 2013.
Valve has worked regularly to keep players around and to deal with big updates and new characters that always get people back. The cycle has lasted for most of three years and saw a total of about 480,000 of the average number of entrants from the beginning of 2017 to now.
Nevertheless, while many players are coming to Dota each day, it indicates that if that number continues to grow and drops as many times as possible, there are some serious problems concerning the quality of the game.
These are the exact numbers from the top of March to Steam Charts by the end of December last year.
