CS:GO Major Finale Eclipses 340K Viewers: Top Twitch Channels, Sept. 2 – 8

The StarLadder Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major in Berlin leads Twitch for its finals, despite fewer overall hours watched on the platform compared to last week’s stage.

Meanwhile, Zack “Asmongold” (last name unknown) continues to have success playing World of Warcraft Classic in its second week on Twitch, doubling the hours watched total of all other broadcast personalities.

The following channels are ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch from Monday to the following Sunday, with data compiled using TEO Access.

 

 

The Grand Finale

 

StarLadder’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major in Berlin concluded this past weekend with a final session that averaged 243K concurrent viewers over three hours, peaking at 341K CCV. 

The event’s main English-language channel had fewer hours watched than last week’s stage with 4.7M, but the average viewership for the final stage of bracket play had a stronger average viewership for the week (62K CCV) than last week (58K CCV). 

 

 

Major CS:GO tournaments happen twice a year and are typically the most-watched events in a year for the title. They all hold the same three-week schedule that has three different stages with different formats, and unique viewership trends. 

Typically the second week has the strongest viewership, but the final week tends to have the strongest average viewership, with the grand finale predictably boasting the event’s highest viewership. This month’s Major was no exception to those trends.

The Gold Standard

 

Following the release of World of Warcraft Classic two weeks ago, Zack “Asmongold” (last name unknown) broke away from all other streamers as the top personality on Twitch.

With the sustainability of Classic as a form of content on Twitch still a question mark, Asmongold has shown that he has the ability to maintain an audience, and this week he managed to more than double the second most-watched influencer’s hours watched total of 2M (from Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris).

 

 

While Asmongold produced much fewer hours watched this past week, his average viewership is still nearly as strong as it was two weeks ago when Classic launched. His 68K CCV average two weeks ago was boosted slightly from the extended stream he had during Classic release day, and he still managed to average 64K CCV this week. His average was at least 25K CCV higher than the average for any other influencer in the top 10.

Mixing It Up

 

Turner “Tfue” Tenney is most known for his prowess as a Fortnite player, but this past week, he’s started to veer away from Epic Games’ battle royale. 

In the past, Tenney was one of the few high-profile personalities to strictly play Fortnite, even when other popular titles like Apex Legends and Call of Duty release. His 16 hours of airtime on Minecraft represents a shift for the streamer who has recently expressed frustration with Fortnite as an esports entity.

 

 

The move to playing a little bit of Minecraft wasn’t particularly beneficial for Tenney though. His average CCV playing the game in the past few weeks was just 30K, significantly lower than his 48K CCV average playing Fortnite
