CS:GO Has a Problem: Why Big Money is Afraid of the Game

by devaccess

Counter-Strike has a problem.

It’s not the rampant cheaters, terrible in-client matchmaking or the abysmal tick rate.

It’s the fact that some of the biggest companies in the world aren’t interested in sponsoring your favorite teams.

I bet that doesn’t sound like a huge deal to you. But behind the scenes, it’s an issue that’s rocking the CS world, and it’s already caused one of the biggest teams in the space to pack their bags and move on.

And if Counter-Strike doesn’t change soon, that problem could stunt the game’s growth at a crucial time.

ohhh again brainwashed idiots over the world think the games and movies are problem for gun Violence , and i think it's the people and companies, religions and politics and real war made more victims/dead people than every other game.Only people with mental suffering problem are going wild out of the games. And people who think games&movies create a violence also have a mental issues. People says " it about educate and understanding and parents" But no one give a shit… Lets just get the pink glasses and say everything is fine

how about instead of changing counter strike, we kill SJW's and PC culture leftists in real life that propagate political correct and leftist garbage?

Companies are making a very stupid argument, but even after playing the game for more than 10 years, if changing the name of the teams and the narrative behind the setting makes the game bigger and last longer, I'm all for it. The game will be the same. It's about the gunplay, the maps, the movements… who cares what the team are called

Honestly the most offensive thing for me in cs is having to play as the IDF. A state-funded terrorist org that continues to operate with complete impunity .

2 ideas:
1: why not literally change it to T vs CT instead of blasting the full word terrorist out there?
2: have a team ever tried getting sponsorer by a firearms company? Mibrs kinda 18+ tinder sponsorship looks like its going great so why not? I bet even pornhub wouldn't be hard to ask.

Incompetent parents of today are blaming why their psycho kid is shooting up school on games like csgo and gta-sa. If that were true I’m sure their won’t be any surviving pplz in North America right now cuz everyone played those kind of game one point in their lives. Take responsibility and parent ur kids or just don’t have any.

CSGO doesn't have a problem. Marketing directors for potential partners have a problem. They think their consumers care about political corectness. Gamergate showed they do not. This makes marketing in CSGO at this time, very cheap. Your audience also consists of people who are bit older and can actually afford to buy all that stuff themselves and even for their own kids.

There is a third option to this.
Americas Army had a US Army team face off against terrorists, similar to CS. Thing is, you ALWAYS played on the American side, never the terrorist, even if the terrorists were played by the opposing team of human players.

The game flipped assets depending on the side you were playing. Instead of blowing up a nuclear plant, you're on a sabotauge mission against a terrorist training camp. Instead of defending the terrorist camp, you're preventing the bombing of a civilian village.

Your team always looked like Americans to you and the enemy looked like terrorists, although the terrorists were also americans from their point of view, their M16's looked like AK's to the other side. If the opposing force dropped their weapon and you pick it up, instead of behaving like a M16, like it would for them, it would behave like an AK, which was the only method of actually firing an AK in the game yourself.

It's a soft copout, but a viable one without completely ripping the spirit of the game out of it.

That is such a stupid, asinine reason for companies to bail on such a huge game that is legendary with 20 years of history behind it. I'd still be fine with the proposed changes but it just goes to show you that immaturity is not exclusive to gamers.

Oh come on shut up bro …. the entire premise for this video is just so god damn lame …
You have HUGE brands sponsoring the CS:GO scene – huge, multinational brands – that see no problem in CS:GO because their aren't fixated on some puritanical BS idea …

CS has come pretty far in 20 years and by all means, nothing looks to be stopping it rn – but hey – you made a few views on a spectacular / sensationalist claim and that way you made yourself a bit of dough, good on you. But your premise is dead wrong.

What is this comparing the real world to games bullshit… it's just like hearing your grama saying: "if you keep playing these violents games, then you're gonna end up shooting a real person one day". Like do they think they're sponsoring teorrism by sponsering these teams? Jeez i thought this conversasion died out years ago, but apparently not.

It may only just be the fact that how can you market a game that takes too much skill? Dota 2 even has this problem and Dota 2 isn't about terrorism or any real world climate. League of Legends, Overwatch and Fortnite (not calling that last one an eSport) has so much accessibility for new players to start so when those games get a competitive community it's win win for every big buisness looking to invest in for sponsorship because they'll get all the audience.

Let's also take into the fact that Call of Duty which is a war game and has had titles that reference heavily on World Wars and current modern wars as well hinting at the future of whats to come in humanities conflict sells really well every year, it's not quite an eSport but just an example that age gating a game does not = low sales with stifled growth. Just because games like Minecraft and Fortnite has a high influx of players that the general public look at as "games for kids" I mean… Fortnite despite no body horror is still a game where your characters are shooting other characters with weapons that take realistic bullets. Kids play games they think are cool and business's want to make money anyway they can, the only reason why it's an edgy thing to talk about now is because the PC culture we have surrounded ourselves in. I remember watching Terminator 2 and playing Resident Evil 1 at an age I definitely should not have and I've grown up to be hesitant of any physical conflict in my life and support a world view where we stop resorting to violence to progress. If violent video games and movies are the cause of real life atrocities then why haven't they altered me and millions of minds around the globe to support these awful acts of violence.

You definitely have a point but it's not so white and black like all things in life, grey areas always exist because that's what makes us a society and what makes us human.

Changing any of the core elements will just open the gates for more "small" changes down the road. League of Legends is a cheap plastic child's game in a DIFFERENT GENRE with a MASSIVE following in CHINA. Rainbow Six Siege and Overwatch may have more "sponsor friendly" models but just look at the amount of people watching and playing these games and compare that with CSGO. Cater your game toward sponsors before players and the players will notice. Who wants to watch a game that no one is playing? And who wants to sponsor a game that no one is watching?

In my mind changing it to Attack and Defense is even worse than T and CT because it removes the element of morally bad and morally good from the game as a redeeming angle… But attack and defense takes away any question of morality and leaves the violence.

Sponsors have a problem with CS?
Nope – – Its Germany that has a problem with CS.
They were always moralfagging about the video gamems, taking them for the shelfs for "not giving peaceful conflict resolution options"… in the era of mario and shit like that.

I'd rather have CS change Germany than Germany change CS.

Just make the game about nurf-gun or paintball and a pillow you have to put at a special place to win the round and the other team have to sleep on the pillow for 5 or 10 sec to win the round if its put there.

I'd really don't mind the game changing its terminology. It's mind-blowing to see a team like Faze not even having a team house or apartments, training miles away from each other
