After spending the previous several years broadcasting and casting League of Legends, LS is returning to coaching. He previously coached the Korean side bbq Olivers, becoming him the league’s first foreign coach. His LCK Challengers squad only placed 5th in the CK 2019 spring. He formerly coached teams like Gravity and Tempo Storm in the North American League.
However, LS has gained notoriety for its contentious views on the competitive scene. His view on the game differs greatly from most others, yet it is occasionally accurate. His gaming expertise is great, and he wants to show the world that his eyesight isn’t as awful as they assume.
His major motive for joining Cloud9 LS was to bridge the gap between Western and Eastern teams. This signing also concludes the one with T1, after becoming one of their content developers and streamers last year.
“If there was ever going to be a chance to return to pro play in some capacity, coaching would have been it,” LS added. “I also felt that watching Worlds this year, LPL and LCK teams really declined in terms of gameplay… something I never felt before.”
Cloud9’s 2021 was unexpected, as the team reached the quarterfinals of the League of Legends World Championship, sending FPX home.
During the off-season, Cloud9 announced the departure of Luka “Perkz” Perkovi and restructured their squad, including former top laner Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami. The company has added three new players: Summit, AD carry Berserker, and support Winsome. It was no surprise that LS wanted to teach the two Korean players on the team. He has always had a greater connection with LCK players, and LS himself approves of them.
He also promised to keep the organization’s Academy team active in the roster-building process. Aside from Darshan, LS wishes to cooperate with bottom laners Zven and K1ng.
“I’ve been pretty vocal about the necessity for internal scrims and practise,” LS remarked. “The Academy squad will be filled with high-level players, as well as other coaches and staff members who are also Korean Challenger level gamers.”
If LS’ coaching and methods work, then “his stocks will go through the roof”, according to former ADC Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng. If not, it will be enjoyable since he has all the skills to make his vision of the game a reality, including his long-time friends Maxwell Alexander “Max” Waldo and Marius “Veigar v2” Aune.
When the LCS returns on Jan. 14, LS will coach C9. We can’t wait to see what he brings to the table and if he can elevate the NA competition.
