Overwatch 2 is still very mysterious, with just a few hints of the game in the form of redesigns of character and several gameplay trailers. But if a now-removed tweet from PlayStation Brazil is confirmed, the game may be released sooner than previously expected. Overwatch 2 may be released this year, according to the company’s twitter.
The tweet, published on 6 January, PlayStation Brazil, stated that “2020 will be the year Overwatch 2 comes to PS4.” Since the tweet is deleted, this information has not been replaced. But why the tweet has been deleted is unclear. It seems that the information itself was either wrong or before any official announcement, the account posted the release date before scheduling.
Blizzard, the overwatch developer, has refused to comment on the game, but Jeff Kaplan, the lead developer, previously stated that he is “no idea.” Blizzard is currently focusing on making a great game instead of any fixed release date. Sony has refused to comment on the release date leak of PlayStation Brazil.
This is accompanied by Blizzard’s announcement that Overwatch 2 news “goes dark,” before more can be shared with fans. There was little news about the sequel after the revealing of Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 in BlizzCon 2019. Sadly, this means that there is no chance of viewers knowing if this tweet is valid.
It would give weight to the criticism that Overwatch 2 is supposed to come forth as early as 2020. However, at the BlizzCon reveal, Jeff Kaplan addressed fan concern, saying that Overwatch 2 is’ clearly a sequence,’ but still partially compatible with Overwatch.
Overwatch 2 focuses both on PVE missions and on multiplayer, which is more than just an overwatch expansion. The time will only tell if the leak was correct or not because we appear not to have received an official declaration soon. It also means a lot more work, which calls the date of release 2020 into question.
