Apex Legends continues to smash Fortnite records – esportsjunkie

It took 30 days for Respawn’s game Apex Legends to hit the 50 million mark, according to Electronic Sports. The huge rise of this new video game, which is free to play on PS4, Xbox One and PC, has drawn comparison with Fortnite due to the similar battle royale gameplay and impressive growth.

The game has pulled popular elements from other battle royales, although there are a couple of key differences. While playing Apex Legends, the players compete exclusively in teams of three and can choose characters with unique abilities. The similarity between Fortnite and Apex Legends is that both are free to play and both make money by selling cosmetics items for characters through an in-game purchase system.

Apex Legends destroyed Fortnite’s records step by step, as they hit 1 million players after just eight hours, 2.5 millions after 24 hours, 25 million downloads in its first week and finally 50 million downloads after one month. Fortnite remains hugely popular, although they started to bring in some elements from Apex Legends and from Sea of Thieves.

Apex Legends now prepares to launch the first season of play, introducing a battle pas and additional in-game content. Furthermore, some eSports organizations are already looking to build Apex competitive teams in order to be prepared for the upcoming competitions.
