On Thursday, FaZe Clan introduced American rapper and songwriter Kiari Kendrell “Offset” Cephus as an investor. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.
“I love gaming and esports is the future” said Cephus in a release, “These two facts make it only right that I be a part of the biggest esports organization with some of the best players in the world.”
Earlier this year in April, NBA player Meyers Leonard invested in the organization. Both investments are a combination of equity investment and strategic alliance to help build the FaZe Clan brand in the intersection of esports and entertainment. As part of this strategy, the organization added American rapper, singer, and songwriter Miles Parks “Lil Yachty” McCollum as a brand ambassador in December of last year.
“FaZe Clan goes beyond gaming and esports – we’re leading a transformation in culture and entertainment,” said FaZe CEO Lee Trink. “FaZe Clan is redefining what it means to be an iconic entertainment brand and working with a visionary like Offset is another step towards the future – we not only dominate in competitive gaming we are setting new trends across content, merchandise, brand partnerships, and beyond.”
Cephus is a founding member of Lawrenceville, Georgia-based hip hop trio Migos, alongside cousins Kirshnik Khari “Takeoff” Ball and Quavious Keyate “Quavo” Marshall.
Chephus joins the likes of music artists such as Canadian rapper Aubrey “Drake” Graham (who invested in 100 Thieves in October 2018), DJ Steve Aoki, pop-rock band Imagine Dragons (who invested in Rogue parent company ReKTGlobal), and Canadian rapper Daystar “Tory Lanez” Peterson (who invested in Luminosity Gaming).
