A quick look at TI12 after the fierce battle of the group stages to understand the performance of the teams that are eyeing the Ageis of the Immortal.


Two days have already passed since the Dota 2 International 2023 began. Teams have been battling it out in the group stages for their spots in the playoff brackets and it’s only going to get spicier as we progress. After day 2 of the group stages, Team Spirit, Team Liquid, LGD Gaming, and Tundra Esports are at the top of their respective groups A, B, C, and D.

Let’s dive in and discover how the teams have performed in the group stages so far.

TI12  Group Stage Recap –

Group A showcased some intense matches over the span of two days. The group’s standout performer was undeniably Team Spirit, maintaining a pristine record. They started strong on Day 1, defeating 9Pandas with a 2-0 score, and continued their momentum by taking down Team SMG and Entity with the same results. Their dominance was further cemented on Day 2 when they bested Evil Geniuses 2-0.

Speaking of Evil Geniuses, they had a rocky journey. They suffered a 2-0 loss to Entity on Day 1 but managed to draw 1-1 with both Team SMG and 9Pandas on Day 2. However, in the tiebreaker, EG showcased their resilience, taking a decisive 2-0 victory over Team SMG.

9Pandas had a mixed bag of results. They faced an initial defeat against Team Spirit, drew with Entity, and managed to conquer Team SMG with a clean 2-0. Entity, on the other hand, showed potential by defeating EG and drawing against Team SMG.

In summary, Team Spirit emerged as the juggernaut of Group A, remaining undefeated throughout. Evil Geniuses, despite some early hiccups, secured a key tiebreaker win. 9Pandas and Entity showcased spirited performances, while Team SMG faced challenges and was eliminated from the stages of the DOTA 2 International 2023, especially against the dominating Team Spirit.

Group Stage Recap –

In the fierce competition in Group B, several standout performances have caught our attention. From the very beginning, BetBoom Team (BB) emerged as a dominant force, securing victories against Thunder Awaken (Thunder) with a 2-0 scoreline on Day 1. Their momentum did not wane as they continued their winning streak by conquering both Team Liquid (Liquid) and Azure Ray (AR) with identical 2-0 results. By the end of Day 2, they had firmly established themselves as the juggernauts of the group.

Team Liquid, on the other hand, experienced a mixed bag of results. On Day 1, they managed to hold their ground against Azure Ray with a 1-1 tie, but their spirit was challenged with back-to-back 2-0 defeats at the hands of Shopify Rebellion (SR) and BetBoom Team. Fortunately for them, Day 2 began on a brighter note as they secured a convincing 2-0 victory against Thunder Awaken.

Shopify Rebellion made an impression with their consistent gameplay. They successfully trounced Azure Ray 2-0 and even handed Team Liquid a 2-0 defeat. However, the BetBoom Team managed to halt their progress with a 2-0 win on Day 2. Azure Ray, after drawing with Team Liquid, faced tough losses against both Shopify Rebellion and the BetBoom Team.

Thunder Awaken struggled, as reflected in their Day 1 scores, but their resolve was evident in their 1-1 draw against Shopify Rebellion on Day 2. But all that effort still couldn’t save them from elimination.

All in all, Group B offered a thrilling showcase of skill, strategy, and unexpected twists, setting the stage for an exciting next phase.

In Group C, the excitement was palpable as powerhouse teams battled fiercely against each other. Leading the pack was LGD Gaming who put up a masterclass performance throughout the competition. On Day 1, they sealed decisive 2-0 victories against both Gaimin Gladiators and Nouns, proving their mettle as a top contender. Their dominance, however, was slightly challenged on Day 2, where they continued their victory streak against Beastcoast with a 2-0 score but had to settle for a 1-1 draw against the formidable Virtus.pro .

Gaimin Gladiators showcased resilience and adaptability. After their initial setback against LGD, they bounced back with an impressive 2-0 triumph over Virtus.pro. By Day 2, they secured another commendable 2-0 win against Beastcoast and managed a draw against Nouns, wrapping up their stint on a high note.

Virtus.pro had a roller-coaster ride in Group C. The initial 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Gaimin Gladiators was undoubtedly a tough pill to swallow. However, they managed to find their rhythm, pulling off 1-1 draws against both Beastcoast and Nouns and then later against LGD, demonstrating their ability to hold their ground against top-tier teams.

The underdogs, nouns, showcased their mettle by drawing games against heavyweights like LGD and Virtus.pro, proving they aren’t to be taken lightly. Meanwhile, Beastcoast found the going tough, only managing draws against nouns and Virtus.pro but getting eliminated from the group stages.

PSG Quest

TI12 Group Stage Recap –

Group D saw a mix of expected victories, surprising upsets, and hard-fought draws. Leading the charge was Tundra Esports, who emerged as the undeniable champions of the group. On Day 1, they began with a powerful statement, defeating TSM 2-0. This momentum continued as they took down Talon Esports and Keyd Stars with the same convincing 2-0 scoreline. By Day 2, Tundra capped off their group stage performance with another 2-0 win, this time against PSG Quest, solidifying their status as a force to be reckoned with.

TSM had a shaky start with a 2-0 defeat against Tundra, but they managed to find their footing by beating Talon Esports 2-0 and later drawing 1-1 with PSG Quest. They showcased their tenacity, demonstrating that despite initial setbacks, they remain contenders in the tournament.

Talon Esports, after facing back-to-back losses against Tundra and TSM, bounced back on Day 2. They secured two significant victories with 2-0 scorelines against both Keyd Stars and PSG Quest, turning around their group stage journey with determination.

Keyd Stars, on the other hand, displayed a consistent performance. They held their ground against both PSG Quest and Tundra Esports, securing 1-1 draws, but faced a challenge against Talon Esports, resulting in a 2-0 loss.

PSG Quest found themselves in unknown waters, with two losses and two draws, hinting at the fierce competition of Group D, as a result they got eliminated.

The remaining 16 teams will face off to decide the main playoff brackets for the phase two seeding games on day 3. As we progress more on the main stages of TI12, the battles are going to get more fierce, and we will surely see high voltage emotional rollercoaster games that will leave us unsettled on the edge of our seats.
