Esports is growing rapidly these days. With new orgs popping up all over, major investment from huge, non-endemic sources and some companies allegedly asking for millions of dollars to buy into their franchised leagues, it’s easy to feel like we’re in a bubble.
One that’s about to pop.
Once upon a time, esports was in a very similar position to the one it’s in now. Massive outside investment was driving up salaries and production costs and completely changed the industry. And everything collapsed.
But esports rebuilt from that mess, and I think we can learn a lot from the mistakes made back then.

Damn, I remember watching this on Sky in Ireland back when I was a kid. I remember them playing CS and DOA but everything else kinda faded from memory
That ending brought a tear to my eyes, caus eI am sucker for "in the end its about community" narratives
I didn't know about ANY of this. Thanks for the info theScore!!! 🙂
11:40 Dota2Cheats…wtf??
Sick vid ??
3:47 is that swoozie?
This video screams early 2000
Thanks for using the correct Complexity logo
I remember the CGS, what I didn't remember is that cs:s was shown in 3rd-person, like WTF is that shit. Everyone looks so young and for those that don't know 1.6 was more competitive than source but CGS made source more popular with team 3D and compLexity hopping on to source. Also those commercials were cringe af.
wow that was such a fucking good video!
Fun Fact: I knew one of the Berlin Alliance PLayers. THE TACTICAL was preety fun to hang out 😀
