Sinner vs Rublev Prediction (QF): 2024 Australian Open Tennis

by Shane Lambert

Jannik Sinner is in the Melbourne Park 2024 quarterfinals. He will face Andrey Rublev in an upcoming match as the 2024 Australian Open gets to the business end. The quarterfinal match is one where Sinner is a large favorite, priced at -500 (bet365). My Sinner vs Rublev prediction is that the former player will win this match in four sets or fewer.

Jannik Sinner vs Andrey Rublev Head-to-Head Series

The Sinner vs Rublev h2h is 4-2 in Rublev’s favor. They met twice in 2023 with Sinner winning both matches. The most recent victory was at ATP Vienna, where Sinner won the 500-series title. Previously, they met at the Miami Masters. Sinner won both of those matches in straight sets.

One thing that could be noted in both of Rublev’s wins is that Sinner retired in the respective match. Rublev has never won a matchpoint against Sinner. The matches that have been played to a conclusion are 4-0 in the Italian player’s favor.

Rublev and Sinner: 1-14 in Quarterfinals Combined

Rublev has also never won a match point in any Grand Slam quarterfinal. He has been to a lot of them, in fact, this will be his third appearance in a Melbourne Park quarterfinal. All majors totaled, he has appeared in nine previous Grand Slam quarterfinals — including at the 2023 US Open. In a well-noted round of futility, Rublev has only won 3 sets in all of his Grand Slam quarterfinals combined. He is 3-27 overall on sets played in the Grand Slam quarterfinal round. Even when he picked up Frances Tiafoe in a quarterfinal, Rublev still blew it, losing in straight sets.

This will be Sinner’s 6th quarterfinal — and he has not been a man for the occasion himself yet. He is just 1-5 in his previous attempts but he has simply never looked better than he has in recent months. The 22-year-old is a presumptive heir apparent to the World No. 1 ranking, in my opinion — a matter that could be settled to a degree in the week ahead. If Sinner has faltered a lot in the quarterfinals, then it could be dismissed as due to his youth.

He did win his last quarterfinal match at Wimbledon 2023. I think Sinner will win several Grand Slam quarterfinals in the years to come.

Sinner vs Rublev Prediction: Sinner 3-0 or 3-1

At the current Australian Open, Sinner is 12-0 in sets played without the need for a single tiebreaker. Sinner also has two match-wins over Djokovic in recent months. Furthermore, Sinner has closed out a couple of 500-series tournaments in recent months as well. That shows that he has the endurance to win these late-round matches.

The best bet in this match is Sinner to win 3-0 or 3-1 at -188 (bet365). You can get that by betting on the “No” side of Rublev to win at least two sets in the match.

Rublev vs Sinner prediction: Draw at Melbourne Park 2024

Sinner will presumptively face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Sinner will surely be the underdog should it happen but I think there may be betting value on him in the presumptive semifinal match.
