VCS underdogs took on one of the best Korean teams in an aggressive DK vs GAM elimination match for the 7th day of Worlds Swiss Stage.
The first week of Worlds matches kicked off with another David vs Goliath match-up with the Vietnam representatives in the running fighting Dplus Kia. Deft’s team fell behind in comparison to the other LCK teams, so they had a lot to make up for. At the same time, GAM Esports have had the most experience fighting the biggest names at Worlds, so DK constantly had their guard up.
Both teams started at the 0-2 pool, so losing any momentum would be fatal for their Worlds run.

DK vs GAM Recap Worlds 2023
Game 1
GAM stuck to their usual draft, with strong engage champs to set up those early skirmishes. Kiaya on rumble meant that ShowMaker and co. had to stay on their toes, but their strong brawl counterpicks forced GAM to rely on Zeri’s scaling in the lategame.
If the VCS#1 seed wanted to win, they had to stay on the offensive. But after a few crap trades in the botlane, Deft got first blood with Kai’Sa’s Void Seeker before taking on an infernal drake for Canyon. After a cheeky gank erased GAM’s bot duo, the earlygame landed in DK’s control.
At this point, GAM focused on building their gold lead to mitigate Deft’s humungous 4.5k lead. As a result of playing it safe however, Canyon’s Lee Sin was able to secure the second dragon of the game unconstested. But even though the Vietnamese comp had stronger teamfight potential, they couldn’t be as explosive as before due to ShowMaker’s power level and both sidelanes being pushed in.
It was clear that GAM was trying to minimize its casualties, but their passive playstyle gave Dplus KIA enough time to claim every neutral objective on the map and secure their strongest victory.
