NFL Week 2 is not over yet. But the Sunday slate is. After 12 games in the afternoon, the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins closed the prime day of football with a fun match on Sunday Night Football. Among many things happening in the game, the Dolphins beat the Patriots 24-17 on SNF.
After leading the scoreboard 17-3 at halftime, many expected an easy win for the visitors last night. Miami travelled all the way to New England and didn’t allow the home team to do much in the first half of the game. However, coming back to the second half, things were a lot different.
Although the third quarter didn’t have any points, it had some interesting things happening. First, Patriots’ Brenden Schooler got one of the nicest field goal blocks of all time in a perfectly timed play, avoiding Miami to go up 20-3 in the score. But right on the next drive, Mac Jone threw an interception and New England had to hustle all over again.
In the last period of the game, the Patriots did what their fans expected they could have done since the first play of the game. They scored two touchdowns and got closer to the scoreboard twice. However, Miami also scored one and managed to keep the lead until the end of the game.
Now Miami is up 2-0 in the season while New England is down 0-2. With the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills both 1-1, the Dolphins are now leading the AFC East. In Week 3, the Patriots have another divisional game against the Jets, while the Dolphins host the Broncos. Both games are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 24.
