LoL Patch 13.17 Buffs Popular Fighter Champs

by Paul Goño

League’s latest balance change makes the strongest picks in the meta tougher to beat. Here are the full LoL patch 13.17 notes that were teased a week ago.

Riot’s 13.17 update is all about durability.

With a sharp focus towards overall tankiness, League’s devs wanted to shake up the meta by giving a wide array of champs more survivability in the midgame. These changes were also prevalent among popular fighters like Aatrox and Xin Zhao, who had some of their strongest abilities modified to favor alternative tank builds with Goredrinker and Shojin. This small overhaul seeks to be a positive change of pace for the players. After all, you can’t have fun if you’re dead.

With that, let’s take a look into the biggest changes in 13.17, the champs you have to watch out for and the latest champs receiving their very own Cosmic Paladin skins. Here’s everything you need to know about LoL patch 13.17.

LoL Patch 13.17 Notes – Nerfed Champions

Naafiri received another round of nerfs in LoL patch 13.17. To mitigate her effectiveness as an assassin champ, her packmates will now be easier to take down if you’re a melee champ. From now on, packmates will receive double damage from melee attacks, but there’s more. Knowing how her Q can hit slow-moving melee champs easily, Riot has scaled back its poke damage and heal amount to give the opposition more breathing room. Naafiri may still execute low-health targets with the recast though, so watch out.

Another one is Kayn, a champ who has seen a lot of success on the Rift as of late. The focus on the nerf was his Shadow Assassin form, which got hit with a huge nerf on it’s W ability. On patch 13.17, Blade’s Reach will only have a 110% AD bonus (from 130%). His HP and Mana reset upon transformation will also be disabled in ARAM.

LoL Patch 13.17 Notes – Buffed Champions

Aatrox got a major change in the way his Passive “Deathbringer Stance” and W works. From now on, both abilities will now scale with Magic Damage instead of Physical Damage. This means that building from Duskblade won’t work as well in the early game, encouraging “juggernaut” builds with Goredrinker and Stridebreaker.

Blitzcrank got a significant boost to his Base Health and Magic Resist (MR) in 13.17. And despite a small decrease on overall Attack Speed (AS) and AS Ratio, his ability buffs make this LoL patch a very good update for The Great Steam Golem. For starters, his passive shield now stays at 30% of your max mana across all ranks. Moreover, mana costs for his W and E abilities have dropped significantly, with the latter now giving 100% bonus AD.

On the other hand, Gnar got a pretty big damage boost for his laning phase, with his Q and W receiving +20 physical damage across all ranks. This but ups his all-in potential by a mile.

Up next is Elise, whose bonus magic damage on basic attacks got a nice +2 increase on all levels. This was intended to increase her lethality in the jungle, given her low winrate. But what stands out in her new kit is her buffed E stun which now lasts 2.4 seconds when you max it out.

Lastly, Zoe is looking excitingly more viable this patch. With a good health regen buff that grants her more sustain in-lane (6.5 > 7.5), Zoe will be tougher to take down during a match. On top of that, her “Sleepy Bubble Trouble” now reduces the target’s MR by 30% across all ranks, helping repel ganks.
