The 4 Teams to Keep an Eye on in 2023

by Zlosterr

Similar to any other year, the end of The International 11 marked the beginning of some of the most important roster changes.

Top-tier teams had to decide which players they wanted to part ways with to prepare for the new DPC. Speaking of the devil, the 2022/2023 DPC will begin in just a couple of weeks, and it will be fun to way. You can learn more about it by checking our complete overview that covers everything you can expect.

Before we get the chance to watch the best players in action, we’d like to share with you some of your top picks regarding the best Dota 2 teams for 2023. Even though no one knows what will happen, these options definitely stand out because they include some of the best players. So, let’s learn more about them.

Nigma Galaxy

Aside from Tundra Esports, the current TI champion, one of the teams we expect to dominate during 2023 is Nigma Galaxy. It has been a while since Kuro and the rest have shown what they’re capable of because his team hasn’t been doing well recently. However, not that Nigma acquired none other than ATF, we think that it is on the right track.

In case you didn’t know, Nigma Galaxy won’t play with Miracle- in the upcoming DPC season. According to the player himself, he decided to step down because of medical problems. This meant that Nigma had to find a new player, which is where ATF came to play.

The 17-year-old Dota 2 prodigy had a key role in OG’s success in 2022, but it seems like he wasn’t happy with the team’s results at TI. As a result, he decided it was time to move forward and join the TI 7 winners.

Speaking of the devil, Nigma Galaxy definitely has one of the best rosters, at least on paper. Although ATF was OG’s offlaner, he will have to play as position 1 in Nigma because he fills in the gap left by Miracle-. Aside from ATF, Nigma will have SumaiL in mid, MinD_ContRoL in the offlane, and GH and KuroKy as supports. The team has what it takes, so it will be extremely interesting to follow it up close.

Shopify Rebellion

The second name on the list may surprise some Dota 2 fans. In fact, most of them probably haven’t heard of it before, but Shopify Rebellion was created just a couple of days ago. What makes it so special is that it includes all of EG’s former roster. In other words, Arteezy, Abed, SabeRLight-, Cr1t- and Fly created their own team after EG’s decision to drop it.

According to the information we have access to, Shopify Rebellion will play in North America. As you know, EG was also a part of the region, but it decided to move to South America following the disappointing results at TI 11.

Considering the current state of the professional Dota 2 scene, it is safe to say that North America is the worst region. The top-tier teams didn’t have what it takes to defeat the best in Europe and Asia in 2022, so it will be intriguing to see if this will be the case in 2023.

Shopify Rebellion has an excellent roster on paper because all players have a lot of experience and know what they’re doing. Although they will most likely not have any problems in NA, Arteezy and co. They will have to prove themselves in the international Dota 2 scene.

Fnatic

Everyone knows that Fnatic is one of the biggest names in Dota 2 and the leading team in Southeast Asia. However, the last 2 years haven’t been that good for them because BOOM Esports, Talon Esports, and T1 had excellent rosters. Although Fnatic usually came on top, the match between all of these teams was unpredictable.

Despite the competition, Fnatic became the second SEA team to receive a direct TI invitation. Armel and the rest achieved good results in the Groups, but the team couldn’t live up to expectations in the playoffs. As a result, Fnatic was eliminated early on.

It seems like no one was happy with the results because one of SEA’s most important and popular organizations announced a couple of important roster changes. Following TI 11, the team added Gabbi and kpii. The first player will be the team’s new carry, whereas kpii will play as position 3.

None of these players have been a part of Fnatic before, but they’ve proven themselves over the years. Needless to say, this makes Fnatic one of the most dangerous teams in SEA and a real contender in the international scene.

Alliance

There aren’t that many professional Dota 2 organizations with the history and importance of Alliance. The TI 3 winners have gone through hell in the last DPC after losing tons of games and failing to qualify for the most important tournaments. Unsurprisingly, this led to many problems, resulting in Loda’s decision to drop the entire roster.

Even though Nikobaby, w33, and the rest looked strong on paper, the team wasn’t able to live up to the expectations. Hence, we now have access to a completely different roster with several interesting names. Starting with s4, Alliance’s TI winner is back, but this time, he will be the team’s offlaner.

Handsken is another popular name that played for several top teams over the years. Now, he will have to be Alliance’s position 5. CharlieDota is the last third Swedish player on the rost, and he will be Alliance’s carry.

The other two people on the roster include ponlo and ChYuan. The latter is from Malaysia and was a part of several big clubs in his career. He will have the honor of defending Alliance’s mid-lane.

Alliance’s new roster looks really strong on paper, but we are yet to see if the players will be able to show their prowess. Sadly, the team is in Western Europe, the strongest Dota 2 region in the world. After all, Tundra Esports, the current TI champions, are there.

Conclusion

These 4 teams are just some of the most interesting ones that we will have the chance to watch in 2023. Needless to say, every region will have something interesting to offer, so definitely keep an eye on the DPC.

Besides it, we will also have the chance to watch several other interesting Dota 2 events. 2022 gave us access to things like the Riyadh Masters, where the jaw-dropping prize pool attracted a lot of players. We expect to see at least a couple of similar events in 2023.
