Ninja Teases Return to Competitive with SypherPK

by Matt Pryor

Ninja and SypherPK tease competing in Fortnite tournaments soon.

Tyler “Ninja” Blevins’ name has become synonymous with Fortnite over the years. The former professional Halo player exploded in popularity when the Epic Games-developed Battle Royale title captured the world’s attention. Some of Ninja’s career highlights include generating hundreds of thousands of viewers during the game’s peak, playing Fortnite with rap artist Drake and becoming a member of the Icon Series. Ninja even enjoyed a brief stint as a competitive player before stepping away to focus more on other ventures.

Today, the Twitch superstar teased a return to the competitive scene, where he’d compete with his friend and frequent collaborator Ali “SypherPK” Hassan. Ninja and SypherPK would participate in tournaments “for fun,” but it would be an enjoyable experience for fans of the two.

Ninja Teases Return to Competitive Fortnite

Ninja took to Twitter following a weekend filled with FNCS viewing parties., asking, “Should me and @sypherpk play Fortnite competitive for fun?” He and SypherPK spent a few days watching the world’s best players compete in the FNCS Chapter 3 Season 1 Qualifier. It’s unclear what led Ninja down the road of returning to competitive Fortnite, but witnessing high-level Fortnite most likely played a role.

SypherPK Shows Interest

SypherPK responded an hour later, stating, “Sheeeesh,” followed by a pair of curious eyes. Event Fortnite’s competitive Twitter account joined the fun. That seems to confirm that the team of content creators might compete in upcoming Duos Cash Cups or perhaps even next season’s FNCS competition.

We’ve seen the two compete in tournaments here and there but have not found much success. Regardless, Ninja and SypherPK would likely garner thousands of viewers if this tease comes to fruition–an overall win for both.

A Brief Walk Through Ninja’s Competitive History

Ninja’s list of accomplishments is seemingly endless—much of which directly spawned from his success in Fortnite. Many referred to the now 30-year-old Twitch streamer as the best Fortnite player for a period. He would routinely annihilate lobbies and classic Friday Fortnite tournaments in 2017 and 2018 before the competitive landscape evolved.

The Fortnite legend nearly qualified for the Fortnite World Cup alongside former duo partner Malachi “Reverse2k” Greiner but ultimately came a few points short. The two players continued competing together into Chapter 2 Season 1, where they joined FaZe Clan members Nate “Nate Hill” Hill and Trevor “Funk” Siegler for the Fortnite Champion Series. This squad reached the Grand Finals, ultimately placing eighth out of 20 teams. Since then, Ninja’s competitive Fortnite career has mainly been on hold.

If nothing else, Ninja and SypherPK’s return to competitive Fortnite should increase exposure and general intrigue. The next Duos Cash Cup is on the schedule for Monday, February 28. We’ll likely have a better idea between now and then.
