Automaker Subaru announces partnership with iRacing

by Ben Hill

Subaru of America, Japanese car manufacturer Subaru’s North American branch, has collaborated with iRacing sim racing network.

As part of the contract, the carmaker will be the Subaru iRX All-Star Invitational Rallycross Championship, eligibility partner. Rally, rallycross, Indycar, and NASCAR professional drivers will be taking part in the event alongside sim racers in a six-round championship beginning on April 10.

The championship was discussed in a statement by Travis Pastrana, Subaru Rally Team USA driver: “With so many people sitting at home and missing competition, now is the ideal time to seek out new stuff in sports. We will be bringing together some of the biggest names from various styles of races for this series and placing them on virtual rallycross tracks with gravel, tarmac and jumps. It will be a blast, and I can not wait to see what is going on!”

The fundraiser will have a total prize pool of $10,000 (£ 8,028), all of which will be donated to a number of charities due to being revealed at a later date.

A three-car team will be fielded in the series by Subaru Motorsports USA. The championship will be shown on the social media sites of iRacing, and on the Facebook page of Subaru Motorsports USA. The event will also be broadcast by other athletes, teams, and sponsors.
