The CS:GO Tournament Controversy Explained

by devaccess

There is a war on the horizon for CS:GO.

And we’re not talking about Ts, CTs, bomb plants or team rivalries.

We’re talking about Counter-Strike’s inexorable crawl towards year-long circuits and franchised leagues. In 2020 we have multiple leagues grappling for supremacy in CS:GO esports — two of which seem to be going head to head in a war for teams, eyeballs and survival.

And this weekend, we saw the opening shots fired.

Soft exclusivity, direct competition and franchising. Do you think this is good or bad for the future of CS:GO?

Ever thought about top tier teams signing a second team. For example astralis got team1 what they have now and they could sign a team like old renegades when they are free to attend lower tier tournaments which are at the same time. second team player got lower wage but could possibly be succesfull aswell. And marketing wise it would be good to see the logo on all posters

Isn't this the kind of mess that Activision-Blizzard wanted to avoid by just running their own esports leagues? This was bound to happen. I'm actually surprised it didn't happen sooner.

This is so stupid situation. Valve should run their own league or tournament series like Riot runs LCS and LEC and then CS GO esports scene would be healthy. Also if CS GO had a official World Championship that would increase its popularity for sure.

So basically B-site is a tournament made to boost hltv rankings of trash teams afraid of real tournaments. Great

My only problem is what is major teams sign to opposite franchises like we won’t see for example like Liquid vs Astralis or big events like that and big teams will just constantly dominate and not ever clash with each other

Hey ESL,
Im not mad about the "way you communicated". Im mad about the fact, that teams like BIG (yeah, im a fan) are being shut out. So if youre excusing yourself for the way you addressed it, I dont give a shit and nobody should

How many NA teams are in the Top 20 currently and have therefore no reason to decline B-side just based on that?

Best would be a rule from valve that major tournaments aren't allowed to overlap each other. Give B-Side the Spring and ESL the Winter season. Similar to the UCI.
