So Riot Games, you know the publishers of League of Legends, are suing a small-time esports organization called Riot Squad for use of the word Riot in their name. The funny thing is, Riot Squad doesn’t even have a League of Legends team.
So what the hell is going on here?

Riot games is probably sueing Riot Squad because of the merchandise. People might mistake it as Riot games merchandise and buy it with Riot Squad making the money. Sure, the demands are pretty damn insane, however I think the lawsuit is understandable

Honestly, I don't see this as unfair as Riot have already established themselves as a huge deal in the gaming community, and eSports as well. I also think a big reason they don't like these guys using the word Riot is because they're specifically a team / company also involved around in videogames. Riot Games probably don't give a fuck if there's some pizza place using the word Riot, but these guys are using it in the game industry, and are also selling merch and shit.
And also, obviously.. it'd be hard to mistake Riot Games for Riot Squad right now, but imagine if Riot Squad gets big in the videogame industry. That's the point where people could start mistaking them both.

You're also missing the fact of "Project A". Since Riot games is making a First Person Shooter, they dont want anyone using "RIOT" in the FPS space.
Eh just seems like standard we need to show that we are trying to protect our copyright or trademark. Also their collapsed icon that was shown in the game feed did actually resemble Riots logo (seeing as how 80% of both their logos are the word Riot, though even the font seems similar).

Way to get out of this: since the big companies were just suing to keep their brand and 1.was not serious enough and 2. Hoping you to give in to their legal team. You should get some competent lawyer and smack them and then sue them for defamation, demanding a compensation of $10b

i think this is a pretty fair lawsuit tbh, their esports team chose their name most likely due to the riot games. Consumers will be more enticed to watch the esports team due to funny meme of riot games etc

this is just an overreach by riot games. (also you don't need to apply common sense test, the test applied is a reasonable person test whereby: would in the mind of a reasonable person riot squad be confused as riot games).
