Spanish esports organization Vodafone Giants has closed a €3M ($3.3M USD) investment round with businessman as the sole participant. According to Vodafone Giants, the organization has maintained “an exclusively Spanish investment.” Cózar joins existing shareholders Gabriel Saenz de Buruaga, Alejandro Beltran, Luis Ferrandiz, and YouTuber Lolito Fernández.
Vodafone Giants will use the funds to continue its international expansion and to establish a headquarters in Malaga, Spain.
The organization is one of the longest-running esports team brands in Spain, originally operating as Giants Gaming before signing a naming rights deal with Vodafone in 2018. Since then, the company has secured a number of non-endemic partners including Nike, Chupa Chups, Font Vella, and L’Oréal.
Vodafone Giants joins a growing list of esports organizations outside of the franchise ecosystem to raise funds over $1M. In February, Tempo Storm raised $3.3M in a round led by technology investor Galaxy Interactive, while Tribe Gaming raised over $1M in a seed round which featured celebrity investors Boston Celtics player Gordon Hayward and WWE superstar Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli).
