Valve Confirms CSGO Will Remain Available on Steam » TalkEsport

by Aritra Patra

In a recent update, Valve introduced a legacy build of CSGO on Steam. This move ensures that even after official support for the game ends on January 1, 2024, players can still access and enjoy the game, albeit with some limitations.

The legacy version of CSGO is essentially a “frozen” version of the game. This means that while players can access most of the game’s features, they won’t be able to use the official matchmaking system. Additionally, certain functionalities that rely on the Game Coordinator, such as accessing the inventory, might experience degradation or failure.

Refunds and Eligibility

Valve has also provided clarity regarding refunds, especially for players who might face technical challenges with the upcoming CS2. Players using DirectX 9, 32-bit Windows, or macOS, who meet specific criteria, are eligible for a Prime Status Upgrade refund. The criteria include:

  • DirectX 9 and/or 32-bit Windows users can claim a refund if they purchased the game on Steam between the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test announcement (March 22, 2023) and the launch of Counter-Strike 2 (September 27, 2023).
  • macOS users can claim a refund if most of their CSGO playtime was on macOS, and they played the game on a Mac within the same timeframe mentioned above, irrespective of when they bought their Prime Status Upgrade.

However, it’s essential to note that CD keys, gifts, and accounts with bans are not eligible for this refund.
