Venture capital firm Konvoy Ventures has invested in esports community and content platform Upcomer.
The LA-based company has both a website and a mobile application that are comprised of articles, match schedules, and tournament results. The investment comes as part of its latest round, in which financial details haven’t been disclosed at the time of writing.
Konvoy Ventures focuses on esports and gaming, helping companies in their early stages to grow. Alongside Upcomer in its portfolio include: mobile game developer tool Game of Wheels, ESP.bet’s parent company Askott Entertainment, and influencer monetisation platform Opera Event.
Josh Chapman, Co-founder and Managing Partner at Konvoy Ventures explained the decision behind the investment: “We’re privileged to partner with fantastic founders like Patrik Hansen and his team at Upcomer. Esports has been lacking the all-in-one solution where enthusiasts can interact with like-minded individuals and keep up with everything related to esports. We believe the Upcomer team is in the perfect position to fill this need.”
Watertower Ventures, Imagination Capital, Courtside Ventures, and Waverley Capital all became investors in Upcomer through a Seed Round led by Comcast Ventures in September last year. Two years prior, Niccolo Maisto, CEO & Co-founder of FACEIT and Jeroen Seghers, Chairman & Investor in FACEIT took part in an angel round for the company.
Esports Insider says: Upcomer appears to be doing a decent job in bringing together a number of resources for esports fans and extra capital may well help with that. A lot of publications come and go in this industry so it’ll be interesting to see how the company monetizes its audience in the coming months.
