Today via its official Twitter account TwitchCon announced that it has canceled it European event in Amsterdam. The streaming and content creator celebration festival was scheduled for May 2-3, 2020, but after deliberation and concerns surrounding the spread of the novel coronavirus (CoV-19), the decision was made to cancel the event altogether.

“We have been monitoring Coronavirus concerns and having weighed the potential health risks to our community we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel TwitchCon Amsterdam,” said the company in a lengthy statement.

“TwitchCon is the best weekend to be a Twitch fan. To say we’re disappointed you won’t be able to enjoy the show we’ve been building for you is a massive understatement. But the health and safety of our community, employees, and everyone else who has a part in making TwitchCon happen is, as always, our top priority.”

Twitch said that it would provide a full refund to ticket holders. Those who were going to attend who booked their hotels through Twitch’s hotel block can cancel free of charge depending on the conditions of booking. Refunds cannot be guaranteed for those who booked their hotels outside of Twitch’s hotel block, the company said.

The number of esports and sporting events around the world being canceled or eliminating audience attendance continues to grow as concerns about a coronavirus rise. This week the Rocket League World Championships were canceled along with the League of Legends Champions Korea league (LCK) suspended play recently due to the outbreak.
