Twitch has hired Riot Games veteran Mitch Rosenthal as its new director of production operations for esports, where he will help grow its Twitch Rivals competition series.
Rosenthal previously served as Riot Games’ senior manager of broadcast operations for esports, taking that role in 2016 after joining in 2015 as a line producer. Before working for the League of Legends publisher, Rosenthal worked for companies such as the NFL Network and POPSUGAR.
“As the mission for Twitch Rivals grows, our team is scaling with the best and brightest across established and new areas of the industry,” said Twitch Senior Director of Esports Production and Operations Steve Flisler, to Sports Video Group. “Mitch Rosenthal brings best-in-class broadcast production expertise and deep esports knowledge. We look forward to him leading an important part of the team as Twitch Rivals continues to build incredible opportunities for Twitch creators.”
Twitch Rivals is the streaming platform’s brand of esports competitions, which spans a wide variety of games (including Apex Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and Fortnite), and has awarded millions of dollars in prizing to date. Most of the competitions are played online and include popular streamers, but it occasionally features live competitions, as well. Last weekend’s TwitchCon in San Diego, for example, featured more than $2M USD in Twitch Rivals events.
