Mexican TV network TV Azteca will make a $5M equity investment into Black Ridge Acquisition Corporation to become a shareholder of Allied Esports with plans for the companies to work together on several initiatives.
TV Azteca and Allied Esports will create a 24-hour digital esports and videogame channel for the Mexican market, as well as produce and distribute further co-branded content after last month’s debut of NATION VS NATION, a PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) tournament.
The companies will also design and establish a dedicated Mexican esports venue similar to Allied’s HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas, as well as additional regional event venues and content production facilities. All of the new properties will join the Allied Esports Property Network affiliate program. TV Azteca and Allied Esports also intend to build a network of esports talent spanning numerous games and genres, while Allied Esports will create a localized version of its in-development proprietary online esports platform.

NATION VS NATION pitted PUBG squads from the United States and Mexico against each other, and took place on May 14 at Foro Totalplay in Mexico City. According to a release, more than 2M people saw the TV Azteca broadcast. TV Azteca and Allied Esports first announced a partnership in March, with plans to produce esports content, live events, and a content delivery platform for Mexico and Latin America.
Black Ridge Acquisition Corporation is in the process of buying sister companies Allied Esports International and World Poker Tour owner WPT Enterprises from Ourgame International Holdings Ltd. Following the acquisition, which Bloomberg reports will close in July, Black Ridge will be renamed Allied Esports Entertainment. The deal is worth about $150M, with Allied Esports Entertainment expected to have an enterprise value of $214M, according to Bloomberg.
