League/Tournament Brands:
Turner Sports today will announce a deal with mobile game developer Supercell to both sell the game maker’s ad inventory and air the 2019 Clash Royale League World Finals on Turner’s ELEAGUE series. Terms were not disclosed for the multifaceted deal, but the pact adds to Turner’s growing presence in esports, where it has carved out a niche for itself by aligning with several games including Rocket League to sell their sponsorship and ads, and air their events on its channels.
As part of this deal, ELEAGUE will air highlights of a mobile esports competition for the first time, including a two-hour show next Friday night on TBS. The six-team Clash Royale event took place earlier this month in Los Angeles, and the special on TBS will include top moments from several of the matches.
Turner will sell Clash Royale League inventory on digital platforms and on linear TV, and the deal allows ELEAGUE to produce future content around the series. Supercell’s games are available on tablets and smartphones on Apple/iOS and Android, and the company is based in Finland, but has an office in San Francisco.
