Valve is already looking ahead and postponing the Dota 2 championship event The International 11 to 2022, according to a leaked email published by the Belarusian Esports Federation on social media platform VK. According to the federation, it had applied to host TI11 in Minsk, Belarus. The application received a reply from Valve which notes the postponement of this year’s event, TI10, and indicates that TI11 will take place in 2022 instead of 2021.
In April, a post by the Dota 2 team stated that TI10 would “likely” be moved to 2021, but Valve has not yet confirmed this. The event was originally scheduled to take place in mid-August, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Esports Observer has reached out for confirmation on this story.
If true, TI11 would become the first international esports competition in 2021 officially delayed by COVID-19. This would also indicate that rather than planning to host TI10 early in the year and resume normal operations afterwards, Valve is perhaps considering hosting the event originally planned for this year in its normal calendar slot in August 2021.
