The prize pool for Dota 2’s world championship event The International will exceed $30M USD for the second year in a row, with The International 10’s total currently sitting at $30.04M at time of writing. TI10 passed the $30M mark roughly 63 days into its Battle Pass contribution period, while last year’s TI9 took more than 75 days. At its current pace, the TI10 prize pool will once again become the largest single-event prize pool in esports history, breaking last year’s record of $34.33M.
Ordinarily, the prize pool contributions from sales of Dota 2’s annual Battle Pass end after just a few months, with The International taking place each year in mid to late August. However, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event has been postponed. While Valve has yet to issue an official statement about its scheduling plans or how it will impact the Battle Pass, it is possible that there will not be another TI until August 2021.
If that should be the case, there could well be a scenario where TI 10 in 2021 receives prize pool support from two years of Battle Pass revenue, which could well-exceed $70M.
