ReKTGlobal today announced that its Rogue team has re-signed Fortnite player and streamer Benjamin “DrLupo” Lupo, who has earned equity in ReKTGlobal as part of the new multi-year agreement.
Lupo is captain of Rogue’s Fortnite team. He has participated in the organization’s Junior Rogue program for mentoring young players, as well as its Rogue Nation fan club. A release touts him as “the first esports player to serve as the face of Rogue” alongside celebrity investors such as Steve Aoki and Imagine Dragons.
In a video released alongside the announcement, Lupo clarified that the deal is for two years, and that he has plans to play and stream more often with other Rogue players. The team is also planning limited-edition merchandise, as well as some kind of “world tour” of appearances, according to Lupo.
Lupo is also noted for his charity efforts, including raising nearly $1M USD for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during a four-hour stream earlier this year. He was named the hospital’s Content Creator of the Year.
“Ben, otherwise known as DrLupo, is the rarest of the rare in esports,” said ReKTGlobal CEO Dave Bialek, in a release. “He is part celebrity and part philanthropist. He is an individual superstar and the captain of Rogue’s Fortnite and Junior Rogue teams. His family values and support for Rogue and ReKTGlobal make him the only choice to serve at the face of our growing organization. We are thrilled to have him as an integral part of the company.”
Lupo signed a sponsorship deal with insurance company State Farm in January, which was the company’s first sponsorship of an individual esports player. He is also sponsored by Blue Microphones, Secretlab, Kings Coast Coffee Company, NZXT, and Logitech G.
