Riot launches first official Wild Rift tournament roadmap for MENA – ARCHIVE

by Trent Murray

The MENA region will have its first official Wild Rift tournament in July according to a new announcement by Riot Games. The Battle of the Rifts will follow a similar format to the region’s top League of Legends competition, the Intel Arabian Cup.

A seven-month competitive season will be separated into two leagues, each with a $10 thousand prize pool. The competition will culminate in a $20 thousand finals event. This series will be operated in partnership with regional esports organizer and production company Calyx, a division of Hockwood Games with help from Toornament.

Participating countries will be split into 2 regions, GCC & Iraq (KSA, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Iraq) and Levant & North Africa (Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya).

MENA is growing quickly as a mobile gaming market, and Riot has placed a focus on cultivating esports ecosystems in the region for its newer titles. The company is also actively supporting competitions for Valorant which will feed into championship event qualifiers in Europe through Strike Arabia.
