Data analytics firm Newzoo (which is part of Leaders Group, the portfolio of which includes The Esports Observer) and Reddit have entered into a strategic partnership that will allow the company to amplify its view on games-related consumer engagement. The collaboration will see Newzoo’s existing data combine with community insights gained from the social platform.
Through the partnership Newzoo will have access to Reddit’s aggregated data on games and esports engagement garnered from its 430M active monthly users.
“Tracking game IP popularity across traditional social platforms is common practice in the games business. Working together with Reddit, however, we’re going beyond that, developing new insights that aren’t available anywhere else.”, said Peter Warman, Newzoo’s co-founder and CEO. “It’s by far the most preferred platform of the largest and most vocal gaming communities and our partnership is key in our objective to provide a 360° view on game engagement.”
Social engagement data will be processed using a variety of metrics including total subscribers, posts per day, and comments per day.
Reddit is home to multiple communities focused on the biggest esports in the world including League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch League, Call of Duty League, Rocket League, Dota 2, and many others. Each major esport has a Reddit community where its most engaged fans and players interact, discuss the game and its tournaments, and provide feedback to developers and tournament organizers.
