Game developer Psyonix has partnered with IMG, giving the global sports management company the authority to serve as the licensing agent for the video game Rocket League. While financial details of the deal were not released, IMG will enter into a multi-year agreement, with a spokesperson telling The Esports Observer that, “IMG will be working with Psyonix to create Rocket League consumer products for fans. This could include anything from Rocket League-branded clothing and accessories to toys, collectibles and other merchandise associated with the game, as well as elevated brand collaborations.”
For now, the deal is exclusive to consumer products as Psyonix will still be the point of contact for all gaming and tournament licensing.
Released in 2015, Psyonix has seen Rocket League thrive as an esport in an age where first-person shooters and MOBA’s have dominated. A game of soccer but played with rocket powered cars, Rocket League has been broadcast on ESPN and NBC Sports back in 2018.
