OverActive Media Acquires Spain’s MAD Lions Esports Club

, the parent company of Splyce Database-Link-e1521645463907 and the Overwatch League’s Database-Link-e1521645463907 Toronto Defiant, has acquired the Madrid, Spain-based esports organization, MAD Lions Esports Club.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. MAD Lions E.C. competes in such games as League of Legends Database-Link-e1521645463907 (LoL), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Database-Link-e1521645463907, FIFA Database-Link-e1521645463907, Fortnite Database-Link-e1521645463907, Clash Royale Database-Link-e1521645463907, and Brawl Stars.

The MAD Lions E.C. brand will remain intact under its new ownership. OverActive Media will use the team’s Madrid High Performance Center facility as its European and Latin American Team Operations headquarters.

“The investment and commitment from OverActive Media will enable the growth of the MAD Lions E.C. brand to unprecedented levels,” said MAD Lions co-owner Guillermo “Willyrex” Díaz, in a release. “Our aim is to become the number one Spanish-speaking esports entertainment brand worldwide.”

The Splyce Vipers LoL team will merge with MAD Lions’ own squad to form a single academy team under the MAD Lions E.C. banner. It will develop and provide up-and-coming talent for Splyce’s franchised League of Legends European Championship (LEC) team.

OverActive Media’s move also nets the company notable Spanish-speaking influencers, with Díaz having 30M YouTube subscribers split between his two channels, and fellow co-owner Samuel “Vegetta777” de Luque having 26M subscribers to his own YouTube channel.

All told, OverActive Media now has 15 teams competing across seven countries, including teams in three major franchised leagues: Overwatch League, the LEC, and the Toronto slot in Activision Blizzard’s Database-Link-e1521645463907

A spokesperson for OverActive Media declined to comment on the specifics of the deal,  telling The Esports Observer that the company would “not be disclosing terms for this acquisition.”
