Over 12M Players Participate in Live Travis Scott Concert in Fortnite – The Esports Observer|home of essential esports business news and insights

According to Epic Games, 12.3M players participated in a live in-game concert performed by  Travis Scott yesterday. The event was the first of a series of in-game concerts that Epic and Travis Scott have billed as a “tour.” Similar to an event Epic created in partnership with musician and DJ Christopher “Marshmello” Comstock, players could attend the concert through the Fortnite game client, where the developers had created a special in-game experience complete with a digital version of Scott performing his music.

In addition to the millions attending the concert in-game, many players also streamed their experience, adding significantly to the total viewership. Due in part to the difficulty of tracking stream content across individual broadcasts on multiple platforms, these numbers have not been disclosed.

Over the last 18 months, Epic Games has steadily transitioned Fortnite into as much a multimedia entertainment platform as a competitive video game. From movie tie-ins and literal movie trailers shown in-game, to airing content from short-form video platform Quibi, Fortnite has become a virtual space to consume content in addition to playing the game itself.
