National Student Esports (NSE), a body for university esports in the United Kingdom, has brought in Monster Energy as the official drinks partner of its British University Esports Championship.
The championship includes tournaments for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, FIFA 19, Hearthstone, League of Legends, Overwatch, and Rocket League.
Monster Energy has partnered with NSE for the upcoming season of the championship and will also have a presence at NSE’s spring and winter finals, though details on the partnership activation are yet to be revealed.
Jonathan Tilbury, Executive Director of National Student Esports commented in a release: “We’re over the moon that Monster Energy have recognised the size and passion of the university esports community and we look forward to working with Monster over the years to come.”
British University Esports Championship was launched in October last year as a large-scale competition for students to represent their university across a number of titles. In its inaugural season, the championship had almost 700 teams compete from 80 institutions across all seven titles in the program.
At the end of the year, the university that has accrued the most points through the season will be crowned ‘Esports University of the Year’. At time of writing, University of Warwick is firmly in the lead over the competition with 1104 points – Loughborough University are in second with 908.
Esports Insider says: NSE are doing a great job in engaging universities in a variety of esports and it’s cool to see Monster Energy get involved with the initiative. The energy drinks brand is seemingly involved in most corners of the esports industry and evidently it’s not planning on slowing down any time soon.
