Southeast Asian esports organization Mineski has expanded its partnership with Globe Telecom to create a pair of all-women esports teams, the companies announced today.
The teams will compete in League of Legends and mobile MOBA Arena of Valor under the name “Haliya,” which a release states is “named after the masked moon goddess who battles monsters such as Bakunawa in the Bicolano folklore.” The teams feature a mix of veteran players and newcomers.
In February, Mineski and Globe Telecom first announced a partnership that created teams for League of Legends, Hearthstone, and Arena of Valor under the Team Liyab banner. The new women’s teams will be branded “Liyab Haliya.”
“Globe continues its commitment to growing a more inclusive Philippines esports industry with Haliya,” said Nikko Acosta, Globe Telecom’s SVP for content business group and product management, in a release. “Through the introduction of 5G technology and our first all-female professional esports team, we aim for the online gaming experience to reach new heights and set the local industry’s place as a major player in the global arena.”
Liyab Haliya will first compete at the Female Esports League Elite League of Legends tournament on Sept. 5-8 in Singapore.
