Tournament and league organizer ESL today announced that it will add a dedicated Dota 2 tournament to its UK national ESL Premiership lineup, thanks to sponsorship by Mercedes-Benz.
The automaker has previously sponsored Dota 2 tournaments at ESL One events, including ESL One Birmingham in 2018 and 2019—the former of which was an official Valve Major. With this newly-announced partnership, Mercedes-Benz will also sponsor Dota 2’s entry into the ESL Premiership for the UK and Ireland.
Currently, the ESL Premiership includes tournaments for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Rainbow Six Siege. The new tournament will be called the ESL Premiership Dota 2 Skirmish, and the game is not considered “a full Premiership title,” according to a release, although that could change in the future. The Skirmish is designed to identify rising Dota 2 talent in the region, and focuses on individual players rather than formed teams.
“The partnership between Mercedes-Benz and ESL has already proved to be hugely successful and has resulted in two incredible ESL One Birmingham tournaments for Dota 2 in 2018 and 2019,” said ESL UK managing director James Dean, in a release. “Having Mercedes-Benz involved with the national tournament will see that same success replicated within the ESL Premiership. It also means a more varied offering for players and fans with even more communities involved.”
The ESL Premiership Winter Finals will be held on Nov. 23-24 at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester, England, and will feature all three titles over the course of the weekend.
