MAD Lions vs G2 Esports is the first Match of the Week of the Summer Season, and it should be a battle for the ages!
The 2023 LEC Summer Split finally started this Saturday, with all the teams debuting their new tactics – and some even their new lineups! Even though only one day has passed, there were some exciting outcomes. But the best is still ahead of us, as the Match of the Week, G2 Esports vs MAD Lions takes place today!

The Lions made it to the finals of the Winter Split, fell back in Spring, but in the end, they were able to get the title in the second split of the LEC. The team went to Mid-Season Invitational as the first seed of the EMEA Region, but sadly, they couldn’t hold their own against the best teams in the world, dropping out of the competition after losing to none other than G2 Esports 0-3.
However, Yasin “Nisqy” Dincer and his teammates returned to the LEC stronger, and they showed it against Team Vitality. After a quieter early game, they managed to get a hold of the match thanks to Kim “Chasy” Dong-hyeon’s K’Sante and turn the game on the French org. They started out with a win, but can they keep the ball rolling?
G2 Esports
G2 Esports were the first Champions of the 2023 LEC Season but failed to defend their title in Spring. Even though they finished 3rd in the Regular Season, they only got 4th place in the Group Stage. That was enough for Playoffs, where they had to face MAD Lions, but Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther and his teammates were unable to beat the team that went on to be Champions.
Similarly, to their opponents today, Sergen “BrokenBlade” Celik and G2 Esports were able to clench the first victory of the split – and against none other than Spring finalists Team BDS. On top of that, G2 vs BDS was one of the most one-sided matches of the first day of Summer, which should be a cautionary tale for each team facing G2.
MAD Lions vs G2 Esports Predictions
MAD Lions and G2 Esports have faced each other 6 times this year: they clashed thrice in the Winter Split, twice in Spring, and met once in the Mid-Season Invitational. Out of those matches, MAD Lions was only able to beat G2 Esports once in the Spring Playoffs, and while that series was a crucial one, the Lions needed 5 games to knock G2 out. On the other hand, G2 Esports defeated them 3-0 in both the LEC Winter Finals and during MSI, and they were a bit more convincing on the first day of Summer as well, so they have the upper hand in the Match of the Week.
