G2 AWPer Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov has shared his thoughts on CS2 AWPing following his team’s IEM Sydney opener

G2 Esports’ rising star, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, provided insights into his experience during his debut LAN match at IEM Sydney 2023. The young gun shared what he thought of CS2 AWP following his first competitive CS2 experience.

He revealed that the AWP felt rather unconventional during the match, yet he couldn’t precisely identify what was amiss.
m0NESY turned to Telegram to share his thoughts after his team narrowly emerged victorious from a tense encounter against the local Grayhound side.

“CS2 AWP is so weird. Now I understand why everyone picks SG and AUG,” his Telegram post read.

How did m0NESY and His Team Perform in Their CS2 Debut?

G2 kickstarted their IEM Sydney journey with a thrilling win in a closely contested match on Nuke against the formidable Grayhound team. The Australian squad managed to secure just three rounds during their defensive half, but they showed remarkable resilience, nearly achieving a remarkable victory with a score of 11-13, primarily thanks to the star-studded performance by Joshua “INS” Potter.

Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and company set the tone early by securing the pistol round and then maintained their dominance from the first shot fired to the last. Spearheading this relentless offensive onslaught was the exceptionally talented Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, whose precise fragging prowess played a pivotal role in propelling G2 forward.

Despite voicing his reservations about AWPing in the new game, the Flash showcased an exceptional performance in the match. His impressive statistics attested to his skills and adaptability, boasting a commendable Kill/Death ratio of 19-14 and an Average Damage per Round of 82.7. The Russian sniper finished the match as the highest-rated G2 player with a 1.28 rating. Thanks to m0NESY’s incredible contributions, G2 surged ahead, amassing a commanding six-round lead as they switched sides.

An impressive 9-3 T-half for the IEM Cologne 2023 champions initially appeared to be an almost surefire path to victory. The European mix had an unexpectedly sluggish start on the defensive side, threatening to squander their substantial lead. Grayhound, showing incredible resilience, managed to level the playing field at 11-11 and made the match significantly more intense.

It was at this juncture, in the final round of regulation, that the spotlight fell on Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač. In a nail-biting 1vs1 showdown, he found himself in a make-or-break moment that would decide the fate of the map. With unyielding determination and nerves of steel, huNter- emerged victorious in this high-pressure situation. His triumph secured a hard-fought 13-11 victory for G2, averting what could have been a dramatic and unexpected turn of events.
