Immortals Gaming Club has been successful in its efforts to acquire Infinite Esports & Entertainment – the parent company of OpTic Gaming, OpTic LoL, and Houston Outlaws – according to a report from ESPN.
The deal hasn’t been done in terms of legalities and paperwork, but the deal was approved by Infinite Esports & Entertainment’s board in a meeting on May 30th.
Should the deal officially close, Immortals Gaming Club will absorb OpTic Gaming and its LCS franchise slot, though it will have to figure out a way to offload its Overwatch League franchise, Houston Outlaws, as it already counts franchise Los Angeles Valiant as one of its properties. This is inline with Esports Insider’s report on the situation from May 18th.
Immortals Gaming Club plans to bring Immortals back to the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) following the acquisition, though – just like Dignitas’ acquisition of Clutch Gaming – this would come into play from 2020. Despite this, the company will become responsible for completing the payments necessary to own the franchise slot in the North American competition.
The payments necessary to complete the majority acquisition of OpTic Gaming by Infinite Esports & Entertainment, which happened in the latter half of 2017, will now need to be made by Immortals Gaming Club – as per to the report.
Immortals Gaming Club already owns and operates MIBR, a Brazilian Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team. This causes a conflict of interest with OpTic Gaming’s all-Danish roster, meaning action will need to be taken on this front.
Esports Insider says: The report from ESPN confirms what Esports Insider has been publishing for the past weeks so it’s not surprising news at all to us, especially when you consider that members of OpTic Gaming have been more transparent since things became public. It’d be sad to see the end of such a storied organisation and, even if the brand remains intact, it’ll feel very different to the iteration fans have come to know and love over the years.
