UK-based farm machinery companies Grimme and AMAZONE have entered esports by fielding teams in Giants Software‘s upcoming Farming Simulator League.
The two brands will be joined by others in the farming industry by competing in the league once it kicks off on July 27th at FarmCon 19.
This isn’t the first instance of Grimme being involved with Farming Simulator, having had branded items in the game series since 2013. AMAZONE will not only compete in the league, but it’ll do so by utilising its own employees to represent it once things get underway.
Last month, German games publisher Astragon Entertainment and American agricultural & construction John Deere both sponsored teams in the league. Other teams that have been announced at the time of writing include Horsch, Lindner Traktoren, mYinsanity, and Krone.
The inaugural season of the competition, which was announced in January, will span over 10 European events throughout the next year. Starting with FarmCon 19 on July 27-28th and ending with FarmCon 20 next summer, a total of €250,000 (£224,315) will be distributed as prize winnings throughout the season.
Corteva, Logitech G, Intel, DLG, Nitrado, and noblechairs have all signed on to sponsor the Farming Simulator League so far.
Esports Insider says: It’s honestly cool to see brands that are endemic to farming – but obviously strangers to the world of esports – getting involved with the league. Having the backing of brands that carry weight in the farming industry may well bring in a healthily-sized audience that is also new to esports.
