Berlin-based esports team organization G2 Esports will bring back its gaming talent show, Making the Squad, this time in partnership with Nicecactus. The show will bring in seven players of the League of Legends auto-battler game mode, Teamfight Tactics, and have them compete in a variety of challenges over the course of a week. Financial terms of the show partnership were not disclosed.
The winner of Making the Squad 2 will receive a $10K grand prize, a paid trip to a G2 Esports event, and the chance to sign as one of G2 Esports’ official content creators. Nicecactus first partnered with G2 Esports in October 2018, while under the brand name Esport-Management, and was a partner of the last Making the Squad season. The training and team managing platform recently closed a $5.5M series A funding round, raised by private investors, and launched a $1.1M grassroots esports fund to help amateur and semi-pro players expand their careers.
While the official esports series for Teamfight Tactics has yet to launch, the game has already become the 11th most-watched game on Twitch this year so far, with 2.52M total hours watched. The eight-player strategy spinoff has become a popular side-game for streamers who typically built their audience around digital card games, such as Hearthstone.
